My first visit to Monmouth produced a very entertaining game played in a bright winters afternoon. The result was in doubt right up to the last minute when the home side were denied extra time by Hunts hat trick goal which was in my mind the best goal of the game. Monmouth deservedly took the lead on the half hour through Guy. Bala who started jittery eventually settled down. Goals from Hunt (35 + 38 pen) turned the tie on it’s head. Having a player (Lawrie) sent off with half an hour to go wasn't going to help the home side, as it was they kept plugging away. Bala couldn't finish the game off which let Monmouth in with the equaliser on 66 min’s. End to end action continued until Hunts superb hat trick clincher goal on 90 min’s. At the final whistle Monmouth could walk off with their heads held high. AFC Porth in two weeks time will be a good test on their Division One title ambitions.
